Membership

Like other advocacy non-profit organizations and friends of parks groups, the Friends of Johnston County Parks has implemented a paid annual membership support program. For a nominal annual membership fee, you can help support the volunteer work of the Friends of Johnston County Parks.

All fees and income generated will be used to support the basic operating expenses of the organization, for instance required insurance and legal fees, as well as supporting the Johnston County Parks and Open Space Program initiatives. These initiatives include new park infrastructure, such as new playground equipment, shelters, or anything else needed in the development of new parks across Johnston County and will begin with Johnston County’s first county park in the Cleveland community at the intersection of Matthews and Polenta Roads!

Benefits

  • The Friends offer unique events and volunteer opportunities throughout the year aimed at engaging the community and building connections to parks and open space. Events such as the Earth Day Countywide Cleanup and the Walk and Talk about Trails are designed to bring our members together to advance our mission. The Friends have also adopted two segments of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail in Johnston County. Our volunteers help to maintain those trail segments for residents and visitors to enjoy. Work includes raking and pulling the heavy debris off the trail, clipping overhanging branches away, lopping off new growth, and all other finish work - it's labor intensive, but no special skills are needed. In fact, this is great work for well-supervised younger trail workers, too!

  • Stay up to date on the Friends with our quarterly Parks & Arts Bulletin, the email newsletter of the Friend of Johnston County Parks. Our issues contain lots of exciting news and updates, including information about our events, engagement opportunities, business updates and more.

  • The Friends work to advocate for funding and resources aimed at advancing parks, recreation and open space opportunities across Johnston County. This work requires all of us to be successful, so join in to be part of the change!
